Ingredients
- Cocoa powder, 1/4 cup
- Sugar, 1/2 cup
- Salt, to taste
- Vanilla extract, 1 tsp
- Oat milk, 4 cups
- Water, 1/3 cup
Steps
- Put sugar, cocoa powder, and salt into a medium saucepan.
- Add the water, whisk together, then heat on medium until boiling.
- Boil for 2 minutes, stirring nonstop. If you stop stuff will burn onto
the saucepan!
- Add the 4 cups of oat milk, then keep heating until hot (but not
boiling). Stir regularly throughout.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla.
- Whisk until foamy, if you like a lighter hot chocolate.
Serving
Divide into mugs; you can pour right out of the saucepan if you're careful,
otherwise use a ladle. Whipped cream on top or a dusting of cocoa powder is
a nice visual touch. Let it cool a bit before drinking it.
Variations
- Add 1/4 tsp of cayenne for spicy hot chocolate.
- Add 1-2 tbsp of powdered instant coffee for an ersatz mocha.
